We want to keep touring, go around the world again, keep selling records and have a long career. Weâre working on the second album, which will hopefully be out early next year. I had to paint a lot of fences and got fired but no one told me why. I worked at a garden centre, which wasnât too bad. Whatâs the worst job youâve ever had? I donât think those little prejudices will ever go away. I donât think any sort of prejudice is socially acceptable but because itâs just a hair colour, it doesnât seem like such a big deal. What can be done to stamp out anti-ginger prejudice? Iâve always been quite positive so itâs never affected me. Itâs typical teenage taking-the-p*** for whatever reason. I used to get that a lot because I went to an all-boys school. Have you ever been the victim of anti-ginger prejudice? It was cool but awkward and embarrassing at the same time. He didnât know I was there and I tried not to turn around.

My mum loved the Lighthouse Family â Iâm not sure if that was a good influence.Have you heard your music in any unexpected places? I was at a motorway service station queuing up for a coffee and the guy behind meâs phone rang, and he had our song What You Know as his ringtone. The Beatles and Bob Dylan were staples in my house growing up. I listen to the songs and try to dissect them to work out what makes them so good because obviously we want to make good music too. Iâm very interested in pop music like Girls Aloud and Lady Gaga â thatâs the music that gets in peopleâs heads. Itâs embarrassing to say now but I was eight at the time and remember saving up to buy the cassette.Įverything I grew up with has impacted on the music I make today. Everyone stood with their backs to us at the bar. We did a show in Castleford and people just didnât care we were there. Theyâd had festivals before and some people were getting angry about Western bands playing there. We didnât know what music was like over there or what they were into but the shows were great.

South-East Asia is so far away and foreign to us. We played to 3,000 people in South Korea last year. Have you played in any obscure countries? The fact people found us online or on indie radio means they feel theyâve discovered us themselves. If weâd been on the radio and in magazines early, maybe weâd have been a flash-in-the-pan, which has happened to a lot of bands in recent times. Itâs given us time to build a worldwide fanbase. What has had the biggest impact on your career so far?ĭoing everything under the radar.
